This article provides a general guide to the amount of sleep children need over a 24-hour period, what to expect for children of different age groups,
some common problems, and tips for building healthy habits.
As Early Childhood Educators spend much time with children during the day, this article provides a helpful guide in planning the daily schedule for
children under their care. For example, nap time should be planned for toddlers to age 3 years old to be not too late in the day (e.g. around 1pm after
lunch), and preschooler ages 3 to 5 years old may only need a “quiet time” as they tend to give up naps during the day at this age.
This article provides a good guide to parents and early childhood caregivers on the importance of sleep, what to expect for children at different ages,
some common sleep problems, and which sleep issues should be brought up to a doctor.
